Apprenticeships at Northumberland
You’ll be given the opportunities to push your career further. From experiencing new things to expanding your learning and professional skills, we’ll help you to have an even bigger impact in the future
Whether taking your first steps on the career ladder, up- skilling or searching for a career change- there is an apprenticeship for everyone. With the help of a dedicated trainer or coach, you can acquire nationally acknowledged certifications that will be a lifelong asset, while also enhancing your technical skills, expanding your knowledge and applying it in real-life situations.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a paid, real-world job that provides valuable learning experiences and skill development, ultimately preparing individuals for their chosen careers. Accessible to those aged 16 or older and not in full-time education, apprenticeships can range from 1 to 6 years based on the chosen level and individual experience.
Apprenticeships at the council
The Northumberland County Council apprenticeship program enables participants to work for the council, developing their skills and knowledge while obtaining a qualification. Apprentices are employed by the council, earning a wage, following a training program, and receiving on and off the job training to ensure job competency. They are supported by an Apprenticeship Mentor who guides them throughout their journey.
Benefits of an apprenticeship
Apprenticeships cater to school leavers, career advancers, and those seeking a career change, and are available to those over 16 years old not in full-time education. Benefits include hands-on job experience, salary with holiday leave, tailored learning, and the opportunity to study for a recognized qualification with no tuition fees for 20% of work hours. They also offer a career path with future potential.
